Saving the Earth

The Bundle Break Lesson Plan.

BUNDLIST NOTE: For children in this age group make sure to slow the pace. They need longer to process and think.  If they need help lead them with questions to promote thinking. If child seems ready for the activity, shift to it and while they perform the activity weave in the prior content. 

 

Time 

30 minutes 

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVE:In this care learning experience, your child will learn about the history of Earth Day, the greatest challenges facing the health of the Earth, understand recycling and environmental terminology, discuss fun facts about the Earth, and create some interesting crafts.   

Remember, the lesson is meant to be interactive and a conversation with the child. After asking them questions, always pause and wait for their response and reply accordingly. 

 

THE MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:  

  • 3 pieces of colored or white paper 

  • Tape  

  • Glue 

  • String 

  • Markers, crayons or colored pencil 

  • Child safe scissors 

  • Leaves from outside (if available) - or green paper/green marker/green crayon 

  • Small plate or something round to help draw a circle 

  • Empty toilet paper roll 

 

QUICK LESSON OUTLINE 

  • Introduction: introduce yourself and ask child about themselves 

  • Start lesson: learn about Earth day  

  • Activity: planet Earth Mandala 

  • Continue lesson: how to help our planet 

  • Extra time: paper house 

  • End session: takeaways  

 

INTRODUCTION 

  • Begin the session by introducing yourself to the child and/or parent. Confirm the care experience that they signed up for and review the materials needed.  

  • Then start your session. To break the ice, ask the child their name, their age, and what their favorite thing to do is, favorite game or favorite class in school. 

  • Explain that in this session you will talk about planet Earth, the importance of taking care of our home and steps we can take to do that.
